That is the Question!
I’ve been going through a phase of photographing barbed wire recently. Barb(d) and Shakesphere. Hence the title of this post. It’s the simple things that make me smile.
This black-and-white photograph captures a close-up of barbed wire on a rusting metal fence. The focus is sharp on a single barb, its rusted point jutting upwards with quiet menace, while the background blurs into soft circles of light and shadow. The rough texture of the fence contrasts with the cold, metallic coil, evoking tension between nature and industry. Shadows deepen the sense of drama, lending the scene a stark, almost poetic quality. The image feels both intimate and unsettling, highlighting resilience, decay, and loneliness.
It’s an image of contrasts – sharp and soft, light and dark, ageing and enduring.
